Two elderly men who gave up land for a dam but saw their families denied jobs held a 50-day protest atop a tower in Pathankot.
Pathankot, Punjab: The protest by two elderly members of the ‘Barrage Osti Sangharsh Committee’—who had been occupying an 80-to-100-foot-high tower in Pathankot for nearly 50 days to demand their rights—appears to be nearing its conclusion. Frustrated that their family members had not received employment despite having surrendered land for the dam’s construction, the two men had taken to the tower to make their voices heard. The process of bringing them down has now begun following assurances from the administration. Officials have promised to convey their demands to the government and arrange a meeting within a week to find a resolution.
