In Gaighata, West Bengal, Prahlad Das—accused of the rape and murder of a minor—died in a police encounter. According to police sources, the accused attempted to escape while the crime scene was being reconstructed; he allegedly snatched a police officer’s firearm and opened fire. He sustained critical injuries in the retaliatory fire and subsequently passed away in the hospital.
