Students at Jamia Millia Islamia, who had been protesting for the restoration of the student union for the past 18 days, have finally achieved a major breakthrough. Yielding to the students’ demands, the university administration has officially announced that a student union constitution will be drafted and elections will be held. According to the order issued by the Jamia administration, “The drafting of the new student union constitution will be completed by May 15, 2027. Subsequently, student union elections will be conducted within six weeks of the commencement of the upcoming academic session, which begins on July 16, 2027. Furthermore, all disciplinary actions taken against students during the course of the protest will be withdrawn, and any campus bans imposed on students will be revoked.” Following this announcement, a celebratory atmosphere has taken hold among the students; they were seen cheering, chanting slogans of victory, and rejoicing across the campus.
