BJP calls for ‘Jharkhand Bandh’ following lathi-charge on students amidst JPSC-JSSC row; pressure mounts on the government.
The protests that had been ongoing in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, for over two weeks reached a crescendo on August 10… Students marched towards the Legislative Assembly. During the march, protesting students attempted to break through police barricades to advance. Security forces deployed water cannons. Several students managed to reach the Assembly gates and staged a sit-in protest there. By nightfall, the police once again used force against the students in an attempt to remove them from the Assembly gates… Meanwhile, the JPSC-JSSC controversy has shifted from being a student issue to the center stage of politics… The BJP had called for a ‘Jharkhand Bandh’ in protest against the lathi-charge and brutality inflicted upon the students… as part of this, BJP leaders staged protests against the state government at various locations across the state…
