Hunger strike, protests, and deployment of security forces at Jamia! Students’ hunger strike enters its 16th day.

The protest by students at Jamia Millia Islamia, demanding student union elections, has entered its 16th day. The students are demanding that, rather than mere assurances, a specific date for the elections be announced. Two students are currently on a hunger strike. The protesting students have alleged that security forces have been deployed on campus, claiming that the university administration intends to put an end to their protest. Throughout this 16-day-long movement, the students have made it clear that they will no longer accept empty assurances; they are demanding a formal, time-bound decision in writing.
