Marathi Proficiency Mandatory for Taxi and Auto Drivers in Maharashtra; Drivers Oppose the Move
Taxi and auto drivers in Maharashtra who do not know Marathi are set to face difficulties. Under the new rules, if a driver lacks a working knowledge of Marathi or cannot converse in the language at a basic level, they will be issued a one-month notice, after which their license will be cancelled. Taxi and auto drivers are opposing the government’s decision; however, the Maharashtra government has made it clear that it will not withdraw the move.
