An incident that brings shame to motherhood has come to light in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. It is alleged that a mother sold her one-and-a-half-month-old infant son for 1.5 lakh rupees. When the father—who supports the family by working as a laborer in Faridabad—learned of this, he contacted the police. The woman had even concocted a false story, claiming the child had been kidnapped. She alleged that she had come to the Kasganj bus stand to get medicine for the baby and that he went missing while she stepped away to use the restroom. However, the police grew suspicious, and subsequent questioning revealed the alleged sale of the child.
