Police Crack Down on Student Protest in Ranchi; Cases Filed Against 600 Demonstrators; Government and Students at Loggerheads

The police have taken major action regarding the student protest in Ranchi. An FIR has been registered against approximately 600 demonstrators in connection with a clash that occurred during the march to the Legislative Assembly on August 10. This includes 100 named individuals and around 500 unidentified protesters. The student agitation over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations has been ongoing for the past 20 days. Despite several rounds of talks between the government and student representatives, the deadlock regarding the JSSC-CGL examination and the recruitment process persists. The government claims that 98 percent of the students’ demands have been met, whereas the protesters continue to seek a resolution regarding their core demands.
