Political battle over FCRA intensifies; dispute moves from Parliament to JPC as government and opposition clash!

The political standoff over the FCRA Bill has intensified in Parliament. The Lok Sabha has referred the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill to a 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Union Minister of State Nityanand Rai moved the motion to refer the Bill to the JPC, which was approved amidst an uproar. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, opposed the FCRA Bill, terming it “anti-minority” and demanding its withdrawal. Meanwhile, the JDU supported the government’s stance, stating that the Bill would not harm anyone. The JPC will now examine the provisions of the FCRA Bill and submit its report during the first week of the Winter Session.
