Student union elections have been suspended at Jamia University since 2006; now, a student protest—demanding, among other things, the restoration of these elections—has intensified.

Students at Jamia Millia Islamia University have been on a hunger strike for the past 12 days, calling for the reinstatement of student union elections. Today marks the 13th day of their protest. For several days, students have been demonstrating on campus in support of their demands. During the protests, slogans such as “Free Kashmir” and demands for the release of Sharjeel Imam served to further inflame the situation. The matter escalated, and the students’ protest became a focal point for political controversy.
