Udhampur Encounter: JeM Terrorists Trapped as Security Forces Continue Operation for 3rd Day
Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir – June 28, 2025:
Security forces are continuing their anti-terror operation for the third consecutive day in the Kuru Nallah forests of Basantgarh, Udhampur, where three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists remain trapped.
The cordon and search operation (CASO) began earlier this week after a senior JeM commander was neutralised during an initial encounter.
Operation Intensified with Special Units and Surveillance
Security agencies have tightened the perimeter, using aerial drones, thermal imaging, and special forces units to block all escape routes.
“The region is under intense watch, with several layers of security to prevent escape,” officials confirmed.
Sources revealed that the trapped militants are part of a recently infiltrated JeM group, and the slain commander was wanted for multiple attacks in the region.
The strategy includes precision-based targeting to avoid collateral damage in the densely forested terrain of Basantgarh.
Rising Terror Activity in Basantgarh
This ongoing operation follows a series of terror incidents in the area:
- April 2025: Havaldar Jhantu Ali Sheikh of the Elite Special Forces was martyred in a major confrontation in the same belt
- September 2024: Two JeM terrorists killed in an encounter
- August 2024: A CRPF inspector martyred in Dudu
- July 2024: Sang police post targeted by terrorists
Officials believe the region has become a hotbed of terrorist infiltration over the past year and have responded with heightened security operations.
High Alert and Next Steps
As of Saturday, the search continues in full force, with drone surveillance and ground troop reinforcements in place.
The region remains on high alert, and additional updates are expected as the operation progresses.
