With brothers behind bars, sisters arrived bearing *rakhis*… the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with deep emotion in prisons across the country.
Raksha Bandhan—a festival celebrating the unbreakable bond of love and trust between siblings. On this special day, sisters tie *rakhis* on their brothers’ wrists and pray for their longevity, happiness, and prosperity. However, the celebration took on a unique character in prisons nationwide today. Sisters arrived in large numbers to meet their incarcerated brothers; they tied *rakhis* on their wrists, applied *tilak* on their foreheads, and shared sweets to celebrate the occasion together. These meetings were filled with a mix of emotions—tears in their eyes, yet also the hope for a better life for their brothers in the near future.
