Female Principal in Gonda Swindled of ₹21.30 Lakh; Money Transferred Over 3 Days While Under ‘Digital Arrest’…

A major case of cyber fraud has come to light in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. A private school principal was swindled out of ₹21.30 lakh over three days after being subjected to “digital arrest.” Cyber fraudsters threatened her via a WhatsApp call, claiming her name had surfaced in a money laundering case. Driven by fear, the principal even liquidated her fixed deposits to pay the fraudsters, transferring the funds via RTGS to various bank accounts. She realized she had been scammed only after the fraudsters’ phone number became unreachable following the transfers. The incident occurred in the city’s Malviya Nagar area. Acting on the principal’s complaint, the police have registered a case at the cyber crime station and have launched an investigation.
