The controversy surrounding the ‘purification’ ritual—which followed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally at Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground—has now escalated into a legal and political battle. The Haldwani Kotwali police have registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi over his remarks regarding the purification event. The case has been filed under Sections 196 and 299 of the BNS, as well as Section 3(1)(q) of the SC/ST Act. Complainant Amit Kumar has accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting the Dalit community and the participants of the purification ceremony.
