Havoc in Maharashtra due to rains! Mumbai-Pune Expressway closed, train services halted by landslides; IMD issues Red Alert.
Incessant heavy rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across Maharashtra. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway have been closed until further notice. Road and rail traffic has been affected due to landslides at several locations. Numerous trains on the Mumbai-Pune route have been cancelled or diverted following landslides. Schools and colleges remain closed in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Palghar; a ‘Red Alert’ has been issued for Pune, while an ‘Orange Alert’ is in effect for Mumbai. Conditions resembling floods and waterlogging prevail in several districts, including Kolhapur, Raigad, and Palghar.
