Major relief for cancer patients: Prices of 397 drugs reduced—with cuts of up to 90%—effective from November 9.

The central government has implemented significant price reductions for several expensive cancer medications. Following a decision by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the prices of 543 cancer drug brands and packs have been revised, with the costs of 397 of these drugs being lowered. Notably, the price of the ‘Samtepa’ injection has been reduced from approximately ₹80,071 to ₹7,150. Similarly, the price of a 21-capsule pack of ‘Palbopro’ has dropped from ₹40,421 to ₹2,720. For some medications, the price reduction exceeds 90%. This move is considered significant, coming amidst strict directives from the Supreme Court and ongoing scrutiny regarding the regulation of drug prices. The new prices will come into effect on November 9, 2026.
