Pakistan-based, ISI-backed gangster Shahzad Bhatti and the network of youths associated with him have been designated as a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The Union Ministry of Home Affairs stated on its social media account: “Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of zero tolerance towards terrorism, the Ministry of Home Affairs has declared the ‘Shahzad Bhatti Network’ a terrorist organization under the UAPA. This group is involved in the cross-border smuggling of weapons, explosives, and narcotics, and incites youths and petty criminals towards terrorism. Targeting India’s democratic framework and communal harmony, this syndicate also published digital content aimed at spreading hatred.” According to reports, security agencies had carried out a major operation against the ISI-backed ‘Shahzad Bhatti Network’ in August; more than 200 suspects and individuals linked to the network were arrested during operations conducted across 14 states.
