Supreme Court refuses to stay CJP’s September 5 march; urges all to remain peaceful and within the law.
Preparations are once again underway in Delhi for a protest by the CJP. The Supreme Court has refused to stay the CJP march scheduled for September 5. The Court stated that there are currently no concrete grounds to believe the march would lead to any untoward incidents. It also expressed the expectation that the administration would maintain law and order and that all parties would conduct their protests peacefully. The CJP alleges that the government has failed to fulfill promises made when the previous agitation was called off. The organization claims that several demands—including compensation for students’ families, the withdrawal of FIRs against students, and an apology from the RAF and Delhi Police—remain unfulfilled. Images of clashes and stone-pelting between protesters and security forces had surfaced during the previous agitation; consequently, there are concerns that tensions could rise again in Delhi over the September 5 march.
