Will India, like Australia, ban social media for children up to the age of 16?
Could children in India soon be barred from social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram? Are preparations underway to keep children away from the world of Reels and online chatting? The central government has directed social media platforms to strictly adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding child sexual abuse material. The government stated that it is the responsibility of all platforms to immediately remove such content and cooperate with investigative agencies. Earlier, during his visit to Australia, PM Modi had praised the social media ban imposed on children under 16, citing it as a significant lesson for India. Amidst these discussions, we spoke to parents in India to ask whether there should indeed be a law regarding social media usage for children up to the age of 16.
